With the advent of genetic DNA testing's availability to the general public around the year 2000 many individuals who had seemed to come up short-handed or had run into a dead end researching their family history suddenly had new hope. That technology, through a simple swabbing of the inside of your cheek, allows an individual to view potential links in their family tree by comparing their DNA with that of other individuals. This new technology has empowered individuals not only with information which can help them researching their family history, but can also help them identify health risks, physical traits and a whole host of interesting information. You may have even heard of decades-old "cold cases" being solved through DNA obtained from suspects unaware, or even obtained from a close relative. This technology has literally changed our world in ways we've never imagined.

Many companies now offer DNA testing. Two major providers I've used are Ancestry.com & 23&me.

Below I've provided a few screenshots of my 23andme DNA results I submitted so you have an idea the information they can provide.
